Harrogate based Terry Ryan won the Yorkshire Post Competition for Public Speaking in the Association of Speakers Clubs Eastern Area District Final held in York. A competition which saw speakers from throughout the region compete for the coveted title.
Competitive speaking in the Association of Speakers clubs is always a challenge because just about everyone in the room is a speaker and at this level the speaker is scrutinised by three expert judges who are looking for a speech of “masterpiece” standard.
Terrys winning speech was entitled La “Crise Economique” (humour packed sideways look at the credit crises) and he ran out a clear winner. This success takes him forward to the Association of Speakers Clubs National Final in Dundee.
Terry commented after his win “I am delighted to have won the Association of Speakers Clubs Vale of York area speaking competition. It is particularly pleasing given the high quality of my opponents on the day and the knowledgeable audience which was made almost entirely of Public Speakers”
